Over Rs 5.7 crore has been stolen in RBI money train heist. The train from Selam to Chennai was carrying 228 trunks packed with Rs 342 crore currency notes. The RBI had collected the money from five banks in Salem. The robbers stole the money by drilling open the train's roof.

In a scene that seemed right out of a heist movie, thieves broke open the roof of a parcel van attached to the Salem-Chennai Express and stole Rs. 5.78 crore cash. The cash was part of a consignment of soiled currency being transported by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for destruction. The theft was detected several hours after the train that left Salem on Monday night arrived in Chennai Egmore early on Tuesday.
